Cable & Wireless

Background
Cable & Wireless (C&W) are a Global supplier of internet, data and voice solutions to business customers. They have a vast portfolio of buildings around the world.

The problem
To save on increasing business overheads the strategic decision to relocate the C&W Headquarters from London to Bracknell was made. The problem was ensuring that the Bracknell sites could accommodate the influx of the new staff, without compromising their effectiveness.

How we solved it
As one of the lead consultants, Kaizen Consultancy led the 4 sites within the Bracknell campus through a churn program. This ensured that team adjacencies for the new staff and existing staff were correct and that all relocated staff were moved to a location that was best for business continuity.

The outcome
The move program was conducted to a deadline of 8 months from start to finish. This was met successfully and to all key stakeholders complete satisfaction.

The future
Once the moves had taken place C&W asked for a space occupancy report to be conducted to see how many staff were now located in the campus. The report proved that although all the staff had relocated to Bracknell and from official C&W data the sites were full, the actual occupancy of the buildings was less than 60%. C&W are now considering their future options armed with these actual facts.

Network Rail

Background
Network Rail owns and operates Britain's rail infrastructure.

The problem
Network Rail recently reviewed all premises within its portfolio and the use of each site. It found from simple feedback that a large percentage of its buildings were under occupied resulting in overhead costs that could be saved.

How we solved it
Kaizen Surveys Space Occupation team were able to survey certain sites for Network Rail providing them with the data to make strategic business decisions with regard to their premises. From the report they could deduce that certain buildings were extremely under occupied which allowed them to reduce their overheads by merging sites together and creating a better working environment for staff.

The outcome
The surveys were conducted over a period of one week, producing a report that reflected the activities within the sites. This in turn allowed Network Rail to make informed strategic decisions that reduced overheads.

The future
As a result Network Rail have been able to reduce business overheads and improve the working environment for all staff.
